TitleDivieto di pascolo in un decreto di Herakleia nelle Cicladi. Una revisione autoptica di IG XII 7, 509
Abstract (max. 650 characters with spaces included)

IG XII 7, 509, conservata presso il Museo Archeologico di Amorgos, è l’unica iscrizione nota di Herakleia. Si tratta di una stele su cui è incisa la parte finale di un decreto che intende vietare l’introduzione e l’allevamento di capre nell’isola. Nell’elaborato, redatto dopo autopsia, si presentano revisione, traduzione, commento e una foto dell’iscrizione. Il problema del preciso statuto politico di Herakleia è stato ancora affrontato in maniera puntuale solo recentissimamente e merita comunque un approfondimento. Si individuano alcuni elementi utili per ragionare su di esso. Inoltre, si riconsiderano le integrazioni proposte per le ll. 1-2 e se ne suggerisce una nuova per l. 18.

Findspot and circumstances
1860. Delamarre 1902, 289 afferma che la stele venne rinvenuta nel giardino di un monastero ubicato nella parte nordorientale dell’isola, ma non ci sono monasteri a Herakleia. Probabilmente essa proviene da uno dei due terreni (Docharies o Karpazas) posseduti e sfruttati dal monastero della Panagia Chozoviotissa ad Amorgos e collocati a Livadi, vicino l’antico sito di Kastro, nella parte nordorientale di Herakleia (vd. Ma 2024, 577).

    L. 4: l'integrazione τῶν [ἀγαθῶν] è accolta da tutti gli editori e nella bibliografia secondaria non trova riscontri nella documentazione. Di norma nella formula di giuramento τἀναντία non ha specificazioni (cf. IG XII 7, 515, l. 95; IG II³ 1, 912, ll. 89-90; IG V 2, 344, l. 11) o è seguito da τούτων (IG XII Suppl. 235, l. 6; I.Iasos 2, l. 40, 46, 52); ΤΩΝ è però ben leggibile sulla pietra. La formula εὐορκοῦντι ... ἐφιορκοῦντι δὲ τἀναντία è molto ricorrente (cf. e.g. IG V 1, 1390, ll. 5-6; Rizakis, Achaïe III nr. 120, ll. 1-2). L. 5 βɩα⟨ζ⟩όμɛνος: il testo richiede il participio presente (cf. IG I³ 256, ll. 8-10, ἐὰν δέ τ̣ις βιαζόμενος πίνηι, ἀποτίν|ε̣ν πέντε δραχμὰς, indicata anche in Ma 2024, 557), anche se la pietra sembra portare piuttosto un σ. L. 6 τῶγ κωλυόντων: l’assimilazione della nasale a fine parola di fronte a velare è sistematica; cf. τὴγ κρίσιν (l. 10); λιθίνηγ καὶ (ll. 13-14); στήληγ καὶ (l. 15); φυλακὴγ καὶ (l. 17); πάντωγ καὶ (l. 18). L. 11 (e 14-15): la forma ἀνήλωμα, deverbativo di ἀνᾱλόω, ἀνᾱλίσκω, al posto di ἀνάλωμα, è ampiamente attestata nei papiri e nelle iscrizioni. La vocale η rappresenta un’estensione dell’aumento del verbo e può sostituire l’alpha sia in forme verbali non all’indicativo sia, come in questo caso, nel sostantivo (Threatte 1996, 1, 132; 2, 499-500). Si tratta di un importante indicatore cronologico. La variante risulta attestata a partire dal II secolo a.C.: sembra dunque ragionevole non risalire eccessivamente nella cronologia.

... per ... e gli altri dei dell'isola, se mantengo il mio giuramento, che tutto mi vada bene, ma se spergiuro, mi tocchi il contrario ... . E se qualcuno, usando la violenza per introdurre o allevare capre sull'isola contro questo decreto e il giuramento, uccide uno di coloro che si oppongono, i parenti della vittima e tutta la comunità degli isolani lo perseguano legalmente; per ogni spesa relativa al processo, ciascuno contribuisca con la propria parte; lo hieropoios Epistrophides faccia iscrivere questo decreto su una stele di pietra e la faccia erigere nel Metroon; che la spesa per la stele e l'incisione sia prelevata dal tesoro pubblico. Queste (norme) siano in vigore per la tutela e la salvezza di tutti gli Eracleoti e di coloro che abitano Herakleia.
